Dear Sola Golfklubb members, business partners and golfing friends,

Ever since I started working at Sola Golfklubb 1995, I have played a double role. I have functioned as the Manager of the club as well as the Sales and Marketing Director. This past summer, I turned 65 years of age and even if I still feel fit-for-fight and raring to go, I have been discussing for some time with the Chairman of the club the possibility of beginning to slow down and pave the way for a successor to take over the daily operations of the club.

We have come to a very agreeable conclusion!

I will at the beginning of the 2012 season step down as the Manager and in the future focus on marketing and sales which is what I do best and what I also enjoy doing most.

We have begun to advertise for a new club Manager and we hope to complete the process so that a person is in place for the start of the new season! We all agree that the Club has grown so big that it is no longer possible for one person to hold both jobs.

The new Manager’s role will be take over the baton and continue to lead us down the very successful path we have already set. The new Manager should concentrate on improving the communication flow both internally and outwards to our golfers. The club’s activities also need better coordinating. There is a need to look at our costs and income figures to see if there is money to be saved or made by doing things differently. The Club also needs to be more visible in the media in the future and we need to make concentrated efforts at recruiting new members.

As for myself, I am optimistic that I can do a better job in the business market and add valuable income to the club all while doing a better job of following up on our present business partners. I also look forward to playing a few more rounds of golf. There has been very little golf in the past few seasons. In addition, I really look forward to getting some of my private live back and spending more time with my love ones who have been so understanding over the years.

Obviously, it’s been quite a ride since the 6th of February 1995; the day the Club received the concession to build the golf course and my 1st official day on the job. We have built Sola Golfklubb stone by stone to where today we are recognized as having one of the best run clubs in Norway. For the past 5 years we have also been the only club in the country to have the status of National Training Center for NGF.

I feel the key to our success has always been to be found in the fantastic Team Work that has existed amongst the people that have directed and worked for the Club over the past 16 years. Everyone has been positive and open to suggestions and always ready and willing to do the little extra to make the club a welcoming place.  We have all taken a lot of pride in doing things well but also in doing them in our own way.

I wish to thank a great many  persons that have been part of the journey - Sissel and Laila in the Administration, our Green keepers fronted by Kjell and BK, Svein Olsnes, Emil and Arild, Freddie and Rune, Linn and Kristian, our Board members and Committee members, the Senior Gang, Golfprosjektering AS, Sola Commune and Fokus Bank.

Finally, I wish to acknowledge the contribution made to the club on behalf of our Business Partners. It was our Pioneer members that made it all possible back in 1995. Our Business Partners have always showed a personal commitment to the club and many have made it “their” club. They have been very loyal over the years and they have been a  major factor in the development of our unique concept. They have taken an active part in creating a modern and vital club that I hope we all can enjoy for many years to come.

I am not going any where,  just shifting focus… see you in the New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Richard R. David
